Our mission is to advocate for people who have or think they may have auto-brewery syndrome (ABS). The specific purposes of our organization are to 1) disseminate information about Auto-Brewery Syndrome, 2) assist patients in receiving screening and medical care and 3) provide grants to qualified researchers who wish to study Auto-Brewery Syndrome.
We run a private Facebook support group for over 750 patients and caregivers of patients with ABS. We advocate for these folks for medical care as well as legal care when needed. Our website: www.autobrewery.org has a "RESOURCES" page that provides links to scholarly articles on ABS as well as links to providers who will treat auto-brewery syndrome. We have interviewed for news outlets such as BBC, NBC, CNN, 20/20, and others to promote awareness about ABS and our website links many of those stories on our "NEWS" tab.
The first-ever book on Auto-Brewery Syndrome, was published in 2019: My Gut Makes Alcohol by Barbara Cordell

  • Our Mission:  We are in the business of helping people to heal their lives from the destruction of the disease of addiction. We believe that addiction is a primary physiological illness, progressive in nature and terminal if left untreated. We know that we have solutions and that any patient who follows our treatment plan will begin to heal. Our programs encourage and reinforce the individual’s belief that recovery from dependence on drugs and/or alcohol is obtainable. This begins with an understanding and awareness that conditions of alcohol and drug dependence can be interrupted. With new close relationships, coupled with an increased understanding about the nature of alcohol and drug dependence, the individual is confronted with powerful personal incentives and a desire to pursue a new lifestyle. We commit ourselves, as our first priority, to the patient in treatment. Next, in the certain knowledge that we can help, we commit ourselves to finding and attracting the alcoholic and addict who still suffers. We recognize that key to our continued success are our ability to reach the addict in need and our willingness to take immediate action to help. The impact upon the community results in the individual becoming a working, productive member of society. The impact of drug and alcohol abuse in the community is reflected by the sober lifestyles of the exemplary staff and sober peer flow at the center. The individual becomes independent, rather than dependent upon society and the community. We constantly seek ways to improve our work and to demonstrate our empathy and respect for one another and for our patients. We recognize and celebrate effort, and we acknowledge that mistakes, as long as we are trying, are opportunities to learn. We commit to continuous improvement and growth. Underlying all of our actions is our fundamental belief that at Be A Light Rehabilitation Services we provide the finest classes and meetings available. The work we do is of social and material value to our clients and the community, and that people, both those we work with and those we serve, are our greatest and most precious asset.

Books by Doris - Doris McKelvey is a writer of devotionals, fiction, and educational workbooks. She was born and raised in Panola County, a 1981 graduate of Carthage High School and a 1983 graduate of Panola College.

She began writing spiritual self-help books while teaching a women's Bible study at a local church. The goal of each publication is to empower and motivate women to read God's word and apply it to everyday life. Readers are encouraged to reflect independently or in small group discussions.

Titles are: The Decision of Life or Death (2012), A Relationship with Jesus (2015), Text Messages from God (2015), Secret Things (2019), Ladies of Strength (2019), Forgiving Grudges: No More Bitterness! (2022), Be Anxious for Nothing (2023), Examine Yourself! (2024), and Patiently Waiting! (2024) recently co-authored with her husband Bill McKelvey, Sr.

As an avid reader, she eventully ventured into writing fictional short stories. Experience characters looking for love while relying on their faith as they sidestep disasters, overcome obstacles, and hope for happiness. Distractions (2015), Shattered (2023), Sunsets on the Ranch (2024).

With an extensive background in education, she created workbooks to help students become better readers. Chapter by Chapter is a series that support the use of novels to improve vocabulary and deepen comprehension. Questions are answered on character's feelings, plot events, text evidence, word meaning, what happened, why did it happen, and other literary elements.

Two of the workbooks were written specifically for third graders as they start to read beginning chapter books. Two other titles are appropriate for students in grades 4-6 as they encounter more advanced novels.

First Grade: Reading with Fluency, students gain confidence and self-esteem as they read meaningful sentences with sight words.

In the Second Grade Workbook, students write brief comments and make connections to personal experiences as books are read, heard, or viewed.

Mrs. McKelvey retired after 33 years of dedication as a classroom teaher and Instructional Coach. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education from UT-Tyler, Master of Education from Texas Wesleyan University, and Principal Certification (EC-12) from Stephen F. Austin University.

Books by Doris has inventory available in her home office at 218 County Road 225 Carthage. Call (903)471-4109 for appointment. Also delivery can be arranged for local customers on request. All products are sold on Amazon.
